How to Care for Your ClearCorrect Clear Aligners

ClearCorrect Lilburn, GA

If you have just received your new ClearCorrect aligners, you have just started on a journey to straighter teeth. ClearCorrect is a revolutionary new system of straightening teeth that offers an affordable, tailored experience to patients with mild to moderate bite issues.

What you need to know about ClearCorrect® aligners

Aligners are expected to be worn at least 22 hours every day to do their job right. With this much wear time, over two weeks they can start to stain. Aligner trays are made from a high-grade medical form of plastic that is resistant to staining. However, they can still be damaged or stained over time.

To make sure the aligner makes it the full two weeks without being lost, damaged or stained, follow these tips for keeping your ClearCorrect aligners intact and crystal clear.

Soak in clear retainer cleaner

To give aligners a boost when they are looking dull, soak them in a retainer cleaner or denture cleaner. Make sure to always rinse after you soak in cleaner. These cleaners will clear stubborn stains.

Only remove them when necessary

It is recommended that patients only remove their aligners when eating, enjoying a hot beverage or brushing their teeth. Never forget to remove them when drinking coffee or tea. Hot temperatures can warp the trays and cause damage. This is another reason to clean aligners with cool water, never hot water. If they are worn less than 22 hours each day, treatment will take longer.

Never clean with toothpaste

Toothpaste is great for cleaning and polishing teeth, but not so great for cleaning your ClearCorrect clear aligners. The ingredients in toothpaste are too abrasive for the plastic and can scratch the aligners. Scratched aligners appear grey when worn on the teeth. Keep aligners invisible and clean with soap instead.

Rinse them upon taking them out

Each time aligners are removed (usually for eating or cleaning), they should be rinsed with water. This clears the aligners of saliva. Dried saliva can take on a yellow appearance when it builds up. Saliva buildup on aligners can also cause bacteria to form in the mouth. Bacteria can cause cavities to form, even while the aligners are worn.

Brush and floss before replacing the aligner

To prevent a buildup of food particles and bacteria in ClearCorrect aligners, always brush teeth after every meal before replacing the aligner in the mouth. Rinsing the mouth is often not enough to clear it of residue. This bacteria is transferred to the aligner, where it can grow and cause stains.

Always return it to the case

One big benefit of ClearCorrect clear aligners is the ability to remove them. But, because they are not permanently in the mouth, they do tend to get lost often. If you head to a restaurant or coffee shop, be sure to bring the carrier case. The most common reason for aligner replacement is leaving a tray behind when eating out.
