Is ClearCorrect Invisible Braces the Right Teeth Straightening Option for You?

Invisible braces appear, or do not appear, as advertised. They hug the different contours of the teeth to fit like a glove. The fact that they are transparent allows the natural color of the teeth to come through, making the aligners that much harder to notice

All of this likely sounds great, but there is more to orthodontic treatment than aesthetics. The point of braces is to straighten the teeth, permanently. This means that a dentist will only recommend a teeth straightening option that will work for a patient. Here is what a consultation with the dentist can look like.

The consultation process for invisible braces

The very first step of any orthodontic treatment is a thorough patient exam. It starts with a chat between patient and dentist, during which the patient tells the dentist their reasons for seeking treatment.

Next, the dentist performs a visual exam, where they take note of all superficial problems. If the teeth need dental treatment that is unrelated to orthodontics, the dentist will add them to the patient’s treatment plan.

The dentist will then order medical scans that show the alignment of the teeth above and below the gumline. These images help the dentist to get a complete picture of how the patient’s teeth are aligned. The information from a patient evaluation allows the dentist to craft a course of treatment that guarantees a good long-term outcome.

When do dentists recommend ClearCorrect® or other types of invisible braces?

Invisible braces can correct mild to moderate misalignment. If a patient suffers from slightly crooked teeth, small gaps and mild crowding, they may be a candidate for ClearConnect®. On the other hand, if the patient has a bad bite or orthodontic problems that have their root causes in the jaw's positioning, the dentist may recommend more aggressive treatment plans.

Before a dentist recommends invisible braces, they will do a complete workup of an individual’s mouth. They will use the information they collect to see the extent of the patient’s orthodontic problems.

How patients make sure invisible braces effectively straighten their teeth

Unlike fixed braces, teeth aligners like ClearCorrect® come off. This means that it is the patient’s responsibility to ensure they stay on for as long as the dentist directs. Most dentists advise their patients to wear their teeth aligners for at least 20 hours, only taking them off to eat or clean their teeth. This has to be the most important rule that a patient observes if their ClearCorrect® aligners are to work.

Other instructions that the patient should follow are:

  • Keep the aligners clean
  • Be fastidious with dental hygiene
  • Take care not to break or stain the invisible braces

A patient who follows the dentist’s instructions to the letter ensures a better, faster outcome. When everything goes according to plan, the patient can also enjoy lower costs, both in terms of time and money.
